Message from the Taxpayers' Ombudsman
As Canada's first Taxpayers' Ombudsman, I would like to take this opportunity to explain my mandate and the role of the Office of the Taxpayers' Ombudsman.
My mandate is to ensure that all Canadians receive fair treatment and professional service from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). In addition to addressing service-related complaints, my role involves identifying and analyzing systemic issues regarding service provided by the CRA.
Through various outreach initiatives, my office is working to ensure that tax professionals understand my role and are aware of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
I have met with many tax professionals during my first year, and it will be my pleasure to continue to do so. My relationship with you is important, as you are often the first point of contact with taxpayers and benefit recipients.
I welcome the opportunity to speak at conferences or seminars that you may be organizing. In addition, we may contact you in the coming months to invite you to an information session should one be held in your city or region. More information is available at http://www.taxpayersrights.gc.ca.
Should you wish to receive leaflets or booklets from our office or should you require any additional information, please contact Miss Kimberley Boyer at Kimberley.boyer@taxpayersrights.gc.ca or at 613-946-2722.
Yours sincerely,
J. Paul Dubé, BA, LL.B Taxpayers' Ombudsman
