Fair Access to Regulated Professionals Act
The Fair Access to Regulated Professions Bill introduced in the Ontario Legislature, requires 34 regulated professions in Ontario to adopt practices that are fair transparent and speedy.
The legislation recognizes the value of foreign credentials and the difficulty of access to some professions in Ontario.
The legislation excludes the accounting profession and this continues to reflect on the one hand the desire of the Province of Ontario to enhance access to regulated professions but unlike other Provinces in Canada, Ontario continues to restrict the practice of accounting.
In Ontario today, Members of accounting bodies recognized worldwide are not recognized. The question is not a case in lowering standards, it is a case of increasing recognition", reported William Nichols.
The second reading of this Bill is expected this fall and we call upon the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Mike Colle to remove barriers for accountants that are involved in each and every aspect of the reporting, administration, costing, and operations of companies and governments throughout Ontario. Let those with foreign credentials have equal access.
